Legendarium is the 4th release of Moon Koradji Records, based in Ukraine. This particular compilation showcases artists from all over planet earth, Finland (Captain Kirk), Netherlands (Whirkk), Taiwan (Kerlivin), Ukraine (Already Maged), Denmark (Dronebixie), South Africa (Tersius), Sweden (Troglotaigan,Oil,Molokow) and Israel (Attoya). With such a creative genepool, this label brings forth a very selected sound, creating in their words "ten spellbinding stories permeated with intriguing sounds and mythical beings, mysterious melodies and enigmatic secrets". The art work is a very nice detailed work done by Azur, mastering by Xenomorph.
The CD starts with frozen sounds from the north with Captain Kirk's, 'Pakkasnapa'. Tripped out samples taken from national geographic describing winter vibez, tend to linger in the background as the sound continously builds, suddenly exploding around 1 min into the track with a funked up groove which is peppered with humourous samples. The second half of the track goes higher in energy level with lots of funk and colour, and nice grooves created with quirky bass changes finishing the track on a very pleasing tasty note.
Whrikk drops in next with a 'Misty vacation', high up in the clouds somewhere, where reality meets the unreal as you hear a sample play in the background saying something about reality and dissolving into a pounding green beat. With really twisted grooves which seem to come and go real fast, Whrikk keeps changing the sonic landscape quickly so it stays interesting, with amazing fluidity he builds a very pumping flow and intense grinding leads which seem to make people kick up dust as their feet pound the ground. Reccommended for woolgathering!
Track 3 is by Kerlivin, takes off on a relentless bassline, which has an amazing drive. The track slowly build to the peculiar danish flowz, and around the 5 minute mark the flow is slowed down for a breather before an amazing bounce kicks in, gets broken and broken again and again as the sound keeps shredding the dancers into a frenzy. A very driving track.
Next track is by ukranian artist Already Maged, who introduces to us the 'King of the winged monkeys', who immediately is flying about acting like a monkey! At the 3 minute mark we are charmed by the backside of the monkey who does a awesome bouncy dance for us till 4 minutes, before he takes off flying again, laughing and buzzing over our heads. The tracks picks up a knotch around the middle before the monkey comes buzzing back in, and hypnotises everyone with his moves and then he tells us 'the rest is silence', then he laughs and takes off again zipping around our heads laughing and giggling, then the energy levels slowly drops as the wicked engine is slowly shut down. You must see the monkey to believe it! He flies!!
You wont feel the next track 'Viol' by Dronebixie start, it has that undercover ninja appeal, you wont see it comming, as the sonic images are progressively built into intricate designs, like woven fabrics of sound, some bubbling distorted voices are used in the middle of the track to build the ambience as the tracks sonic tones colour the whole spectrum of every sense, a complete wipeout of sensory perception with overload of intricate, beautifully crafted, multicolored, atmospheric sonic images. Basically in few words-coloured me rainbow!
Track 6 by Tersius an upcomming artist from South Africa, delivers 'Thundrafi'. Showcasing his arsenal of sounds, he starts by the now very well known danish style of bounce and roove, which every new commer seems to be doing (like a commercial standard?), the sound surpises with lots of variations and a pounding drive, this track is very well crafted and has loads of energy, progressively building towards a tremendous pounding flow. Definately one of the highlighted tracks on this CD and an artist to look out for in any future releases. Top shelf gear!
Track 7 by swedish artists Troglodytes & Taigan Sunset called 'Wide Eyed Child' shows the reflection of thier works in their native swedish forests and the influences of the sanaton crew, clearly visible with the green sounds and those organic leads. This track is definately for peak time operations, as this genuine near complete work with all the qualities of a living organism, seem to breathe by itself, the cave dwellers and the sunset seem to be melting into nature completly with a beautifully crafted sonic sculpture. This track is ET! One of my fav on CD!
Track 8 'Droidbox' by Attoya & Oil, both well known artists combine forces to guide you through this journey. The track starts off with some spooked vocals bouncing left right preparing the dancers for the trip before a pounding groove is settled into a liquid atmosphere, with drifting leads and grooving rhythms, the journey is accompanied with voices and amazingly well crafted shapes of sound. A nice track with some very nice elements, which have been very neatly put together into the droidbox.
Track 9 'Skruvapadenfan' by the Taigan Sunset & Troglodytes drops in smooth, with a light colourfull intro, which breaks into a pumping groove soon and shifts quickly into full gear, building up into a massive wall of sound, which seem to be comming from all sides . The trak slows down in the middle with some vocals, before some twilight sounds seem to appear and make small stars and spirals and by the ending of the track all the sounds seem to come together and form very colourfull visuals. A nice track to come down from a trip. Recall for flashback.
The last track is 'The lay of the last' by Molokow, amazing closing to a tremendous release, the rasta style flowz seem to compliment the whole CD very nicely. Made me take off my shoes and put my feet up, a very nice and pleasent ending which brought a smile to my face.
An excellent release by Moon Koradji, the whole CD is pretty much a well packed CD,so no matter what track you play in your set, you are certain to get a response, a must have for all the freaks, it is easyly visible that all the tracks were well tested in various forests before being picked for their various qualities. A release with the right touch of evolution, shown within the well established sounds, which seem to push the boundaries of the conciousness of human beings into a magical and mysterious place deep within their selves. Top knotch production and quality as expected from such a high quality genepool of artists, it would seem with such a vast rooster, we shall expect this label to be pumping out high quality releases real quickly, and if they carry on with the same level of quality releases like this one, they are sure to gain lots of support. A very good buy, which is highly recommended!
